Candle Fable

Terms

Last updated 12 June 2026

Candle Fable photographs French children’s books and reads them aloud so families can learn the language together. These are the simple terms for using it.

Using Candle Fable

You may use Candle Fable to capture and listen to books for your own family’s learning. Keep your account details to yourself — what happens under your account is your responsibility. You need to be old enough to hold an account; the reading is for children, the account is for a grown-up.

The books you add

You photograph books you own or have access to, for personal, at-home use. Candle Fable makes a spoken reading of them for you and your child — it doesn’t grant you any rights to the books themselves, and you agree not to use it to redistribute or sell someone else’s work.

How the reading is made

Text is read from your photos by Anthropic’s Claude, and the audio is generated by ElevenLabs. These are automated tools. They’re good, but not perfect — a word may be misread or a line voiced oddly. You can review and correct a page’s text before the audio is made.

What we can and can’t promise

This is a personal project offered as-is. We work to keep it running and your books safe, but we can’t promise it will never be unavailable, never lose data, or always read a page correctly. Keep the original books — Candle Fable is a companion to them, not a replacement.

Ending things

You can delete your books or close your account at any time, and your data goes with it (see the privacy note). We may suspend an account that’s being used to abuse the service or others.

Changes

If these terms change in a way that matters, we’ll update this page and the date above. Continuing to use Candle Fable means you’re happy with the current version.
